In 2010, we had the honor of building one of the Nordic region's largest biogas bus depots in Frihamnen, Stockholm for SL. With four compressors, the entire large biogas bus fleet was refueled with both slow refueling via ramp and fast refueling dispensers.
Time passes, technology evolves. Just as we don't expect anyone to work on a PC from 2010, we realized that the control system from the same year was outdated. The limitations of remote monitoring via SCADA server and alarm management were clear.
The solution: Upgrade from the old Siemens Classic PLC to the modern S7-1500 system. Together with Siemens Unified HMI, it now offers an intuitive operating environment for the operators.
The challenge: How to manage an upgrade with minimal disruption? Thanks to careful planning, we were able to shut down on Monday morning and have the depot operational again already on Wednesday. In the meantime, the buses refueled at other depots such as Mårtensdal, Charlottendal or Gubbängen, which we also had the pleasure of building.
We replaced 5 PLC systems, control cabinets, with associated HMI. The software has also been upgraded to PKGT's state-of-the-art standard, which not only meets, but exceeds, all the requirements set in the project.
