Use the gas network to the gas filling station
A practical and cost-effective solution
Piped gas filling stations offer a practical and cost-effective solution for areas with existing gas distribution infrastructure. These filling stations utilize the existing gas network - whether it is the West Swedish national grid or a local gas network - to provide a reliable and continuous supply of biogas, helping to promote sustainable energy options within the region.
This solution is the most common where there is the possibility to connect to a gas pipeline and can be used both for direct refueling of vehicles and as a mother station to fill mobile gas cylinders. The use of piped gas filling stations reduces the dependence on transportation to distribute biogas.
If you are interested in leveraging existing gas infrastructure to create a more sustainable and environmentally friendly transportation solution, a piped gas filling station may be the right choice for you. Contact us at Processkontroll Green Technology to discuss how we can help you establish a piped filling station that suits your needs.
Is it really biogas when the station is connected to the gas network?
When a gas filling station is connected to the gas network, it can vary whether it is supplied with pure biogas or a mixture of gases. For stations connected to local gas networks, filled with biogas from local production, the gas in the piped gas filling station is pure biogas.
On the other hand, if a station is connected to the West Swedish gas network, it means that the share of biogas increases gradually every year. In 2021, the share of biogas in the network was already 34% and continues to increase. At the same time, biogas in Sweden accounts for over 96% of the gas even at stations connected to the national grid that contain a mix of gases.
This is because most operators of vehicle refueling stations along the national grid commit to selling biogas by offsetting the corresponding amount of biogas in the system. This works in a similar way to choosing to have green electricity in your household contract - there are no separate lines, but the electricity supplier compensates for the corresponding amount of green energy.

Biogas filling station in Åhaga
Borås is a piped filling station connected to the gas network. There are several advantages of piped stations like this. Thanks to the connection to the gas network, these stations can offer a continuous and reliable supply of biogas, ensuring that customers always have access to gas when they need it.
Piped stations benefit from already established gas distribution infrastructure, which means that less new investment is required to build and maintain the station.
The share of biogas in the gas network continues to increase, which means that users of these stations are getting an increasing share of biogas for their vehicles. Operators of vehicle refueling stations also often commit to selling biogas by offsetting the corresponding amount of biogas in the system, contributing to the increased use of renewable energy sources.
Connecting to the gas network helps to strengthen the region's sustainable energy solutions and promotes the use of biogas, which is an environmentally friendly and climate-smart alternative to fossil fuels.

Piped biogas filling station in Skien
Air Liquide Skagerak's biogas filling station in Skien utilizes the local gas network to supply the station with biogas, which is an efficient use of resources. This station is also an excellent example of a plant that we initially delivered with only one compressor, but which was upgraded last year with a second compressor to increase capacity and redundancy.
This upgrade demonstrates the ability to adapt and improve our facilities as needs change and grow. By increasing the capacity and redundancy of the filling station, Air Liquide Skagerak can ensure a stable and reliable supply of biogas to customers while meeting the growing demand for climate-smart fuels in the region.
Piped vehicle gas station in Lerum since 2002
The piped biogas filling station in Lerum is one of Processkontroll Green Technology 's oldest vehicle gas filling stations and has supplied Lerum with biogas since 2002. Just in time for the 20th anniversary, the station was transferred to OG Fuel, which now continues to invest in biogas as a fossil-free fuel.
By being connected to the gas grid, Lerum's biogas filling station can offer a reliable and continuous supply of biogas, making it an efficient and sustainable option for customers in the area. The gas filling station has played an important role in the municipality's transition to more environmentally friendly fuel alternatives.å
The fact that OG Fuel now takes over the station and continues to invest in biogas as a fossil-free fuel shows that the interest and demand for biogas continues to grow, both in the transport sector and as part of a larger strategy to achieve climate goals and a sustainable future.
